Albert R. Stone was a self-taught photographer who became the first newspaper staff photographer in Rochester, NY at The Herald (1903-1934). Along with his son, Daniel J., they amassed nearly 14,000 glass plate negatives that are stored at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Our collection features glass plate negatives of Stone and his family, hand-made prints by Albert and Daniel, letters, newspaper clippings, books and scrapbooks created by Daniel’s wife and Daniel’s daughter, Helen Mary Stone Reinhard, known for saving the collection in 1940.
